ODA goes Back to the 80s!
Have you ever wondered what it is like to live in the 80s? The decade where shoulder pads and brightly colored clothes were all the rage, and having obnoxiously huge hair was the only way to look cool. The decade where Madonna and Michael Jackson were in their prime and the technology that we know today was just starting to enter the world. The decade that brought us classics like The Breakfast Club and Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Want To Have Fun.” If you have ever wanted to know what it’s like to be a part of such an iconic, crazy time, now is your chance to go Back To The 80s.
Every year at ODA, the theater department puts on a spring musical that is anticipated by students, parents, and faculty. Our talented actors and actresses have preformed some of the most famous shows in history; from the 1950s classic Guys and Dolls to a portrayal of the upbeat 60s play Hairspray. This year, the theater department is putting on a show that might be less known, but is by no means less fun and exciting. For the 2014 school musical, ODA is putting on Back to the 80s: The Totally Awesome Musical.
It is this midst of the 1980s, and The senior Class of William Ocean High School is getting ready to make the best of their last year in high school. The show is seen through the eyes of a student, Corey Palmer, age thirty, as he looks back on his final year at William Ocean. Filled with romance, suspense, a fight scene, and some of the most famous 80s music of all time, this play symbolizes what it was like to be young in the 80s. Join Corey and all his friends as they discover love, heart-break, peer pressure, and the general trials and tribulations of high school life.
The 80s have left its mark on history as a wild, unique, and “radical” decade, and the ODA theater students are embodying this time with enthusiasm and spirit.
“The play is really high energy and has amazing 80s music. We are all so excited to be characters that lived in such a great time, and are having a lot of fun with it!” says an anonymous senior.
“I’m so excited that all of our hard work will finally pay off” says senior, Jansen Humphrey. “However, the show is bittersweet for me since it is my last one.”
Not only are the actors excited to perform this show; the ODA high schoolers saw a preview today and loved it!
“It was suspenseful, now I want to see what happens to all of the characters!” says Charles Taylor.
“I liked seing a preview because it established the story and gave me a glance into what I’ll be able to see” says Marcus Buffett.
The musical runs from today, March 26, until Saturday March 29. Each show starts at 7:00, and the doors open at 6:30. Come out and support the theater department! It is a show that will get you out of your seat and dancing by the end.
