Womack Strives to Give Back

Who would think that the soft-spoken freshman sitting in the library reading on her iPad would be quietly pondering how to help others achieve their dreams?

Freshman, Kiarra Womack, is working to give back to her community through the Delta Sigma Theta mentoring program.

Kiarra first became involved in this program when a co-worker of her mom’s, a former Delta Sigma Theta member in college, recommended that Kiarra take advantage of the opportunity. Ever since, Kiarra has been actively involved with this program and says she “really likes helping people.”

Delta Sigma Theta is a sorority at universities all over the country. In addition to the university chapters, there is a Delta Sigma Theta Incorporation, which mentors young African American girls.

This program provides African American high school girls with activities to sharpen and enhance the girls lives. It promotes high levels of academic success and helps assist the girls in goal setting. This year, Kiarra will be visiting universities such as Jacksonville University and the University of North Florida to learn first-hand about college entrance and scholarship information.

Within this program, Kiarra also participates in community service. This fall, she is working to help her group fund trips to different universities. To raise money for the group, Kiarra has reached out to the ODA community with a catalog of holiday treats and gifts.

If you are interested in helping Kiarra with her service work, you can speak with her directly to get more details.

Way to go Kiarra!
