ODA Helps Re-Stock Local Food Bank
September 24, 2012
Before last Friday’s Convocation, ODA students from pre-k to seniors and their parents brought in canned food to donate to the All Faiths Food Bank. All Faiths Food Bank is a not-for-profit organization which donates canned food to low-income families. Our goal was to donate enough food to feed over 25o families. We did that…and more.
The canned food just kept flowing in. Tables and tables were stacked high with canned foods. One ODA parent forgot to bring a can, but wrote out a check for $1,000!
Later in the day, all cans were shipped off to All Faiths Food Bank. By mid afternoon, Michelle Corely, middle school English teacher and community service coordinator, announced that we had donated 840 pounds of food. We are extremely thankful that fewer families will go hungry, and that we made a difference in someone’s life.
Ms. Evans, Academic Dean and Arts Department chair, assures that there will be another opportunity to bring canned foods around Thanksgiving when we join forces again to help stock local pantries.
