Lunch Changes Coming Soon
When I first arrived at ODA, I was overwhelmed by the variety of food options in the school cafeteria Commons. The snack selection is large and lunches vary, but I didn’t like the fact that hamburgers were served every Thursday, and pizza was served every Friday, and I know many people who shared my opinion. Little did I know, there were so many alternatives available!
For example, some healthier snack alternatives are freshly popped popcorn, fruit, or edamame beans. For lunch, you have the choice to order the featured “hot lunch” of the day, the sandwich of the day, soup of the day or put together a salad at the salad bar. But, if you talk to Bret in advanced he can make you what you want for lunch. You can ask for any kind of sandwich, vegetable Lo Mein or your choice of a veggie or bean burger.
But, if you talk in advance to Brett, the god of the lunchroom, he can make you what you want for lunch. You can ask for any kind of sandwich, vegetable Lo Mein, or your choice of a veggie or bean burger.
As great as our lunch system is currently, wait until you find out about next year’s plan.
Brett explained that next year his goal is to speed up the lunch process by having “grab and go” options, which would be pre-made lunches in ready-to-go containers. He describes it as a the way things are at the marketplace. New food options, such as sushi will also be introduced.
But food won’t only be available in the cafeteria! The new STEM center building will offer vending machines that contain healthy snacks.
The school is open to suggestions, so share your ideas. Watch for a survey to be sent out soon asking for your opinions.
