Thunder Cup Gets Some Lip

Clarence at his finest
Have you ever wanted to become a professional singer? How about a famous Broadway artist? Some members of the ODA community had the opportunity to pretend that they achieved this status during Wednesday’s assembly.
During Ovation, grade level groups participated in the first annual lip sync battle for Thunder Cup points. Each upper school grade sent two representative groups to lip sync a famous song or Broadway act. Mr. Brewer, ODA’s Director of Fun, hopes that the lip sync battles can be a regular event at ODA.
“In all honesty, and to give credit where credit is due, the idea for the lip sing contest came from Mr. Sommers. I was driving one day and he gave me a call and asked if I had ever seen Jimmy Fallon do his lip sync competition. He told me that he thought it was a good idea to do that for a Thunder Cup event. When the opportunity arose, I jumped on it,” says Mr. Brewer.
The representatives included…
Senior Class
- Cammy Harris and Angus Martin performing “Good Vibrations” by Marky Mark
- Jordan Towlsy and Francisco Marcano performing “Love is an Open Door” from the movie Frozen
Junior Class
- Balia Bangora and Serena Jones preforming Beyonce’s number 1 hit “All the single ladies”
- Class Production of the “Circle of Life” from the movie the Lion King
Sophomore Class
- Clarence Dodge performing the 90’s classic “Careless Whisper” by George Michael
- Alex Seftas and HelĂ©na Beltrau performing “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen
Freshman Class
- Class production of “All in This Together” from the movie High School Musical
The competition was tough, but the winning song was sophomore rendition of Beyonce’s “All the Single Ladies”.
Although the race for the Thunder Cup is not yet over, things are heating up. Only Mr. Brewer (and maybe Mr. Newhams) knows what lies ahead.
