Have you ever wondered what the purpose of homecoming is? Is it just about the football game and the dance?

Homecoming is traditionally a time for high schools to welcome back their alumni for celebration and fun which include a pep rally chock full of fun activities and excitement.

School spirit is a huge proponent in making the week successful and could not be done without the help of Student Council. Each day of the week is given a theme to dress up for spirit week. The themes for costume may include sports day or country. Another part of spirit include the pep rally which is guided by the help of the pep band and cheerleading squad.

On Friday night there will be a family picnic which includes the whole school and followed by a football game against Gateway Charter School at 7:00 pm. During the game, which we of course hope to win, there will be a half time show presented by the cheerleading squad followed by a game of musical chairs. As tradition, there will also be a presentation of the Homecoming court for each high school grade.

The dance, which to many students is the most exciting part of the Homecoming celebration, is put on by the student council and members of the homecoming committee. This year’s theme is Las Vegas, so the decorations of the dance will likely include some of the famous glamor that characterizes the strip. The dance takes place on Saturday Night and includes grades 9 through 12.
