Ready…Set…Exams!

Next week is Thanksgiving break, a much deserved time to relax and spend time with friends and family. It’s also a terrific time to begin thinking about exams which will seem to come sooner this year due to the late Thanksgiving break. For some students, exam week can be the worst week of the year. Consider these tips as exam time approaches.
1. Work way ahead of time. Though it may seem hard to spend your Thanksgiving break making study guides and preparing your notes, it will help ease the stress during the week of exams, especially the night before. By preparing ahead, you will be able to go over unclear information with your teachers.
“I prepare by reading through all of my notes and making flashcards. I like how they schedule them before break, but I still don’t like them. I prepare like a week before, ” says freshman, Lacey Eaden.
“I study with friends and try to go over my notes as well as get help from teachers. I study the night before for each exam for like four hours until 2 a.m. studying,” says freshman Hailey Schlotthauer.
2. Stay calm before and during the exam. When you get really nervous before the exam, you won’t be able to think clearly and remember the information. If you study ahead of time and feel prepared, there will be no need to dread it.
“Everyone hates them. The day of I feel stressed, and scared that I don’t know all of the information,” says freshman, Megan Wiles.
3. Get a decent amount of sleep the night before and eat a good breakfast the morning of. Although it may be tempting to skip breakfast and just go straight to school, healthy food is proven to make you think better and faster. Stay away from cookies, cakes, and various foods with high sugar content.
“I eat fattening foods, and I still do fine. Bacon gives me protein,” says sophomore, Nam Hoang.
4. Recognize your stress and find a way to deal with it.
“I talk to girls,” a tenth grade boy.
“I freak out and cry,” a ninth grade girl.
“I take like 20 mints into the exam room and eat them. It makes it a lot better,” a tenth grade girl.
Whatever you end up doing for exam week, whether it being eating healthy and getting sleep, or studying last minute and crying.
Keep your perspective: by Friday, all the exams will be done!
