Lindsay Hitting Homeruns to Miami and Back
Even when everybody believed he had reached his goal, he still continued to impress people.
ODA Junior, Desmond Lindsay, has been selected to compete in the 2014 Power Showcase All World/All-American Baseball Classic. This January, Lindsay will be representing Florida in the 8th Annual Power Showcase and Future Stars Home Run Derby in Miami.
The Home Run Derby will take place at the new Miami Marlins 500 million-dollar stadium with 37,000 seats.
Lindsay said, “I was so excited when I heard I was selected. I was finally going to be competing in an MLB stadium!”
This is a great opportunity for the junior to not only showcase his skills but to give back to his community.
Lindsay was the first recipient of the Taylor Emmons Scholarship back in 2011. He has come up with an idea of how he could raise money for the TESF through this Home Run Derby event in Miami. Get people to pledge based on his hitting at the event.
At Desmond’s website, Desmondlindsay.org, anyone can pledge an amount. Lindsay hopes to raise $10,000 for the Taylor Emmons Scholarship Fund, the organization that brought him to ODA.
Anyone can make a straight donation or make a pledge per foot Lindsay hits the ball such as in a long home run hit. Residents can also opt for the grand-slam package. This package is specifically for a donation $500 or more and the donor will also receive a chance to dine with Lindsay after the event.
“I am so thankful for the Emmons family. Without them, I wouldn’t be here,” Lindsay said. “They have done so much for me, and I want to show my appreciation by giving back.”
