The National Honor Society (NHS) recognizes high school students for their outstanding achievements in scholarship, leadership, service, and character. NHS also has a separate program for middle school students who exemplify the NHS core values; this program is called National Junior Honor Society (NJHS). Many schools have a chapter of both NHS and NJHS, including The Out-of-Door Academy.

Monday, March 11, 2013, ODA inducted the 2013 NHS Members. The induction ceremony went perfectly as planned. The current officers stated a few things about the core values of NHS, and the introduction of the new members began. Here are the new inductees:

Every student was recognized for their outstanding academic, athletic and service achievements. Two students that stood out were juniors Janum Trivedi and Nikki LaSalla. Janum Trivedi ’14 was recognized for his extraordinary iPhone app, Bankr. Nikki LaSalla ’14 was also recognized for her dedication to the fine arts, especially theater and drama.

“NHS recognition was kind of an opportunity, not just for me, but for everyone” said Nikki.

In Nikki’s introduction speech by current NHS member Natalie Chait, she was recognized for her involvement in theater life. “Yeah,  Drama is probably the biggest part of my life other than writing”

Following the introduction of the new members, the candle lighting ceremony began. The current members and the new members recited the NHS pledge together, signifying their dedication to the NHS core values of scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
