Rally for Relay

rfl-logoRelay for Life is coming at the Out-of-Door Academy, and it is already time for teams to get signed up. Relay for Life is an event run by the American Cancer Society that raises money for cancer patients all over the world. Each year, over four million people in over 20 countries take part in Relay for Life to promote cancer awareness, and ODA is one of the many schools in America that hosts their own Relay for Life event each year.

Partaking in Relay for Life is easy; go to the link provided and sign up under an ODA team of your choice. Team Captains: sign up your teams quickly! Your team members cannot sign up until you have started the team, so it is important to do so as soon as possible! Each individual team’s fundraising for the event starts now, and the actual event takes place on April 19th on the ODA Lakewood Ranch campus.

Students at ODA look forward to Relay every year and love fundraising with their team members. The teams each come up with fun and creative ways to fund raise before the event, and continue to on the night of Relay. ODA has some memorable fundraising experiences like the “Deluxe Hug,” renting a bounce house, and even a professional masseuse. Each of the teams spends the night walking the track in honor of the cancer patients they are supporting. Cancer survivors are invited to join in our experience and walk the track as well,  always a moving experience for the students involved. Almost everyone knows someone whose life has been touched by cancer, and it is always a great experience to see students walking for a cause that affects our community each day.

Relay for Life is an inspiring event to be a part of and an amazing way to give back to the community. It is a fun way for ODA students to fulfill their community service hours, as well. So sign up and become a part of an ODA Relay Team!
