Junior, Janum Trivedi, traded in his iPhone for the turntables, last Saturday night for ODA’s annual Homecoming Dance. Best known for his love of all-things Apple and recent creation of the iPhone finance app, “Bankr,” Janum also loves to mix it up disc-jockey style.

“Coming from Detroit, techno music and DJs are a big part of my life. A lot of my favorite artists are DJs and so, over the summer, I took some time and taught myself the basics,” Janum explains.

The basics turned into a passion and DJ Iceberg (as Janum has been dubbed by his friends) showed off his mad mixing abilities for last Saturday night’s Homecoming dance.

In between bites of a caprese panini, Janum mixed the night away to a playlist of house favorites and student requests. “I went to Carrabba’s with friends an hour or so before the dance but didn’t have enough time to finish eating. I spent half the night trying to eat dinner,”  he jokes,”it became almost a ritual. Every time I was forced to play a song I didn’t like, I would take a bite.”

By the end of the night, Janum was exhausted but in good spirits.”It was a lot of fun,” he says thinking back, “I think everyone had a good time and I know I really enjoyed it.”

The Bolt decided to interview students to see what they thought.

“His music was kind of weird, but I thought he did a really good job.” Jansen Humphrey, a junior, says thoughtfully.

“Yeah, he had some pretty sweet bass drops.” Daniel Pivonka, another junior, agrees.

“The music was amazing!” Freshman Joey Coco exclaims.

As of right now, Janum has no immediate plans to DJ again but says if the opportunity arises he would love to “DJ another event” or “just gain some more experience.”
