Last Thursday two members of the Junior class, Madison Shaw and Tre Gregory made the trip to Jacksonville, Florida for the State Finals for track and field the next day at the University of North Florida.  Madison competed in the 100 meter hurdles and the 300 hurdles. Tre competed in pole vault. Not even terrible rain conditions could stop these athletes from placing in the top eights in their events!

Madison has been doing track since she was in 8th grade. She started doing the 300 meter hurdles her freshman year, and picked up the 100 meter hurdles last year. She qualified for the finals in the 100 meter hurdles by placing 7th out of the 16, but the finals were rained out so she took home the 7th place medal.

“It was an amazing experience to compete with some of the best girls in the state, and I’m extremely happy with the outcome of the meet!” says Madison.

Although he just started pole vault his freshman year, Tre has been doing Varsity Track since he was in 7th grade. Tre broke his previously held pole vault school record at 13 ft 6 in twice this season to set a new height of 14 ft 6 in. Tre vaulted a height of 13 feet in the state meet to place 4th over all.

“Worst condition I’ve vaulted in,” he said. “It was very wet and kinda slippery. I slipped on one of my jumps. “I was expecting a P.R. or something close to what I got in districts, but 13 and fourth place isn’t bad.”  says Tre.

Both athletes plan to do track next year, and Tre also plans to vault in college.

Congratulations to both athletes on an amazing season!
