Soccer Starts Off In Success

Fall sports are coming to a close, and it’s bittersweet…but it is only to be replaced with more excitement around the up and coming winter sports. Basketball and soccer are taking over the spirit of the school! This past week, soccer especially has had numerous shining moments, and even more close calls.

The girls started off the week with a nail-biter against Bradenton Christian. The Thunder ladies fought hard, and the game ended in a tie of 2-2. This may not have been what the team was expecting, as they were somewhat frustrated by the end, but they kept their heads up and continued to look forward.

“We played hard and will for sure beat them next time. This is just the beginning of a very memorable season for us,” says Senior Captain Katie Lang.

This optimistic attitude clearly worked for the Thunder girls. Their game two days later against Bayshore High School resulted in a 7-0 win, naturally lifting the confidence level of the players. With game faces on, they’re ready to face Imagine High School, St. Stephan’s, and Venice in the coming week.

On the boys’ side, their first game was a winning sweep. The game ended 8-0, also against Bradenton Christian, a perfect morale boost to start the season off for the Thunder.

Unfortunately, the second game of the week was against Cardinal Mooney, always a tough competitor. The boys gave it their all, but the game ended in a 1-3 loss.

“We had a tough less against Mooney on Friday, but we’ve identified our mistakes and we’ll be about to improve in games to come. We have six seniors, so there is plenty of leadership throughout the team besides just the two captains (Carson Jungers and me),” says Senior Captain Mark Sulimirski.

Nevertheless, the fans cheered and supported throughout it all, and will be there again for the boys as they also face Imagine, St. Stephan’s, and Venice, and for the girls next week as well.

“I think we started off really well this season. Compared to last year we’ve had a lot of improvement, so we’re all really excited for what’s coming,” says another Senior Captain, Kimmy Comito.

Looks like both the players and the fans have a wonderful season to look forward to. Good luck, Thunder!
