The Returning Champs Are Back For More!
ODA Baseball Opens This Week
As we approach January 13th, fourteen student athletes are preparing for one of the biggest seasons for baseball. The baseball team is not only excited for the 2014 season, but are also pleased to work with their new Head coach, Timmy Orlosky.
Coach Orlosky played baseball at the collegiate level, spending two years at Daytona State College and the University of South Florida. He is a young but very experienced coach who will hopefully lead the Thunder to another district Title this year, moving on to regionals and states.
“I am very excited to be here! Coach Orlosky said, “it’s really a great opportunity for me. I can’t wait to work with our guys, to find out what this team is capable of.”
For the past five years, the varsity baseball team has been heavily influenced by the young talent of underclassmen. This year will be no different. The underclassmen will make up the majority of the squad, along with six juniors to lead the team to a successful year. With almost all players returning this year, they are looking for another district title and to move on to the regional tournament.
Coach Orlosky said, “We have some talented athletes on this squad. We might be a little young, and our numbers may be a little low, however our guys know how to play the game. These players are hard workers with tremendous work ethics and will improve as the season progresses. If we can stay healthy, ODA will be very dangerous this year.”
Junior Desmond Lindsay says, “I like our new coach. He is a great addition to the Out-of-Door baseball team, and he is going to help us become better baseball players this year!”
“He is a really cool guy! Sophomore Cooper Newlin said. He knows how to have fun, but also knows when its time to be serious. I can’t wait for the season!”
The Varsity Baseball team will hold tryouts Monday January 13, and will practice all the way up to February. Their first game will be 2/11/2014. ODA vs Braden River @7 p.m. (@Taylor Emmons Field/Home)
