Fall Sports Rally to Regionals

Fall+Sports+Rally+to+Regionals

Not one! Not two! Not even three! But four ODA fall teams made it to regionals this year! A record has been broken!

Girls Volleyball, Girls Cross Country, Boys Golf, and the COED Swimming team all advanced to regionals this year. The feeling was electric throughout the community. All coaches were very impressed with their teams.

Volleyball Coach, Craig Wolfe, said he felt pretty good with the way his team was playing.

“I was pretty confident that we would finish as one of the two top teams in the district. My goal for the team was to win a District Championship. I was very happy for the team.  Winning Districts was the goal but since we had lost both matches to Mooney earlier in the year (both in 5 sets) we were certainly the underdogs.  It has been a long time since ODA has won Districts so that made the win special.  Beating our Rival in the Championship match made the win extra-special!”

“Our District has traditionally not gotten past the first round in Regionals.  We had a very good win in the Regional Quarterfinals vs Calvary Christian.  Next we have to travel to Clearwater to play a very strong Clearwater Central Catholic team.  We are playing our best volleyball of the season now so I am anticipating a very good match. How far will we go? We are definitely focusing on one match at a time.”

Cross Country Coach, Cristy Snellgroves, was also very impressed with her teams as well. She was impressed to have made it this far and hopefully will do even better next year.

Golf Coach, Shelley Stone, said, “it was our goal at the beginning of the season to make regionals as a team.  I knew we could do that if we all played to our average.  I also thought that if we had a good day, we might finish second in districts.  We had an average day and finished third, but that was enough to move on.” Golf ended up losing in regionals and not moving on to states. It was a great season though.

Swimming Coach, Mr. Naylor, said he was proud of his team to make it this far and break so many records along the way. He wants to do even better next year.

This is the first time in ODA history that four teams have made it to regionals in one season. These athletes have worked very hard to be where they are at and you should congratulate them. Show them support and come out for an event of two. Come on, it’s the Rally of Regionals.
