Theater Department Invites Unknown Talent to Emerge

The Theater Department is inviting new and returning students to audition for this year’s shows. The tryouts will take place this week from Wednesday to Friday.

Before you audition, all actors are asked to have a monologue prepared and a snippet of a song. You can select a monologue from the table outside of Ms. Evans’ office in the Arts Building or bring your own from another source of your choosing. The song selection can be as simple as singing “Happy Birthday” or a verse from a personal favorite.

During your audition, Ms. Evans and Dr. Rosser will evaluate your talents and assess your skills to determine how you will fit into this year’s performances. Contrary to popular myth, the role you get depends on how well the available roles fit your skills, not on how long you’ve been at ODA.

Everyone who tries out will be in at least one of the year’s plays.

Senior Colby Elliott, veteran actor, encourages nervous students to “just be fabulous.”

See Ms. Evans if you have more questions. Otherwise, sign your name on the sign up sheets on the door of the Black Box theater and be prepared to reveal your inner star. Students who participated in Spring Auditions do not have to audition again. Your place has been secured in the theater company already.
