Setting Fire to a Great Year
May 21, 2013
ODA art teacher, Joseph Madres, is well-known around campus for his innovative matchstick sculptures that he ignites once finished. After months of careful gluing and sculpting, Mr. Madres sets these pieces aflame in a final, fiery exclamation of art. “Part of the art,” he says, “is the experience of burning it.”
Last Friday, in a celebratory final burn, Mr. Madres lit his last piece of the school year. It was an awesome experience to behold and one that marked the end to a great year. If you missed the burn and want to see just what Mr. Madres’ art is all about, check out the video!
